The past three years something magical has happened on Wisconsin Avenue in the form of Sculpture Milwaukee. From the beginning of June until the end of October sculptures from world-class artists can be seen on display along Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee. Started three years ago by Steve Marcus of Marcus Corporation it has flourished with sponsors the likes of Northwestern Mutual and Associated Bank. In 2019 the exhibit boasts 32 world renowned artists which include the likes of Sam Durant, John Baldessari, and Radcliffe Bailey to name a few.

Brick and Beauty was approached to help activate the Sculpture Milwaukee brand at the June 6th launch party. Along with the Downtown BID and Fred Kaems, @FredtheArtist, we were able to bring the downtown community together and paint a mural in honor of the artists featured in this year’s exhibition. The event included local food vendors, live music, and of course a mural being painted live by the community.

Brick and Beauty was the perfect partner for this job because we had years of experience guiding people to paint better. Many of the participants had never painted before, much less a mural. With a simple paint by numbers approach we were able to get hundreds of community members involved to create something memorable. Many of the people who painted and watched the progress remarked at how easy the process was.

The mural ended up being a total success and was completed the day of the event. It incorporated the branded colors of Sculpture Milwaukee along with several of the noteworthy sculptures along Wisconsin Avenue. This type of brand activation helped to create buzz and make another successful year for Sculpture Milwaukee. It’s a great way to get people involved and have them feel like they are contributing to a larger purpose in the brand.
